How it works

Why did the image I saved end up as a WebP file?
Many websites now serve images in WebP because it loads faster than JPG or PNG at a similar quality, and saving an image keeps whatever format the site delivered.
Will converting to JPG make the file bigger?
Often slightly, since WebP compresses a touch more efficiently than JPG for the same visual quality. The trade-off is universal compatibility with older software.
Does this work with animated WebP files?
It runs without error, but only the first frame is used — the rest of the animation is lost, since a single JPG can't hold multiple frames the way an animated WebP does. For a still image that's exactly what you want; for motion, it isn't.
Are my images uploaded anywhere during conversion?
No. Each WebP is decoded and re-encoded using your browser's own graphics capabilities, so the image data never travels anywhere before you choose to save it.
