Instagram uses different frames for portrait posts, square posts, landscape posts, Stories, Reels, covers, and profile pictures. This tool includes ready-made sizes for each placement. Pick one, move the locked crop box over the part of the photo you want to keep, and export the exact dimensions without stretching faces, text, or logos.

How it works

1. Add your photo

Add the photo you're about to post by tapping to choose it from your phone or computer, dropping it onto the box above, or pasting it in from your clipboard. Whatever shape the original photo is — a wide landscape shot, a tall portrait, or something in between the two — it loads as-is so you can see exactly how much space it takes up before fitting it to Instagram's frame. Nothing is uploaded during this step; the photo stays on your device from the moment you add it, whichever shape or original aspect ratio it happened to start out in.

2. Choose the Instagram placement

Use the Presets tab to choose a portrait, square, or landscape post, a full-screen Story or Reel, a Reel cover, or a profile picture. The crop box immediately changes to that placement's aspect ratio without navigating away or removing your image. Drag and resize the box until the subject, text, and logo sit where you want them.

3. Download and post

Once the preview matches the exact shape you're posting to, hit Download to save the resized image to your phone or computer. The file uploads to Instagram exactly as sized, so the app's own auto-crop has nothing left at all to trim, and your composition stays exactly as you framed it rather than being decided by some algorithm. Since this tool only handles one photo at a time, run it again for each image in a carousel post that needs the same treatment, keeping every slide sized consistently with the rest of the set.

Frequently asked questions

Why 1080 by 1350 by default instead of square?
That's Instagram's tall 4:5 feed ratio, which gives a post more vertical space in the feed than a square image does. Square and story dimensions are one setting change away in Adjust.
How do I resize for an Instagram Story instead of the feed?
Choose Story / Reel in the Instagram placement presets. The crop frame switches to 9:16 and the result exports at 1080 by 1920.
Will Instagram crop my photo again after I upload it?
Not if the dimensions already match one of Instagram's expected shapes — uploading a correctly sized image leaves nothing for its automatic cropping to trim.
Can I resize a whole carousel of photos at once?
This tool handles one photo at a time so you can check the framing for each. For resizing many unrelated photos to one size in bulk, use the Bulk Image Resizer instead.
